Acclaimed San Antonio athlete raising funds, awareness of sex trafficking.

In Texas, it is estimated that there are 79,000 victims of sex trafficking each year. The average age a girl is first trafficked is 12-14. Eighty percent of Bexar County’s sex trafficking cases involve minors.

San Antonio acclaimed athlete and volleyball coach April Fricke is cycling 1,103 miles along IH-10 corridor from Beaumont to El Paso, Texas May 6 through May 20 to raise awareness of human trafficking in Texas. Fricke will be half way through. Thank you to Texas MedClinic for being a Corporate Sponsor and for supporting this amazing cause.

Who will be cycling?

April Fricke will be cycling in honor of Ransomed Life. Here is a little bit about her!

April is a volleyball coach, trainer, athlete and adventurer.

“I first heard about sex trafficking about 2 years ago and it was a punch in the face.  The reality made me sick to my stomach and I knew I had to do something about it.  So I have combined my love for cycling with my desire to bring hope to trafficked girls!   I chose to partner with Ransomed Life and cycle across the state of Texas.”

Last year April rode across the great state of Texas and she is fired up to do it again! The journey will be a total of about 12 days and 1,103 miles!

Why are we cycling?

April will be cycling across Texas for 2 reasons:

  1. One of our goals is to raise awareness of the horrors of trafficking that is occurring across our great state of Texas. San Antonio is just one of the many cities in Texas that has seen an increase in minor sex trafficking.

  2. To raise funds!! All money raised from Journey for Hope will go to Ransomed Life Local. Local will be an activity center in San Antonio that will allow us to serve our girls more. Local will house our counseling, mentoring activities, life skills’ classes, gardening & more! Opening 2019!!

Why Interstate 10?

April will be cycling along the I-10 corridor for this journey. I-10 is a hotbed for the human trafficking within Texas and across state borders. It is one of the top trafficked highways in the US running from the East coast all the way to the West coast.

San Antonio is the crossroads between major highways: 35 (running south to north) and I-10 (running east to west).
