As Texas legislators prepare for the 2019 session, the Center for Disease Control reports that in 2017 deaths by gun violence in the US reached the highest level in 39 years.
What gun legislation is being proposed in the state capitol? The League of Women Voters of the Comal Area (LWV-CA) and the Unitarian Universalists of New Braunfels will co-host “Gun Safety Legislation in the 2019 Texas Legislative Session” .
LWV Texas Gun Safety Issue Chair Aimee Mobley Turney and Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense Deputy Chapter Leader Molly Bursey and New Braunfels/San Marcos Local Group Lead Chrisy Hinkle will review bills being filed and tips for communicating effectively with elected officials. “There are hundreds of bills introduced each legislative session.
The discussion will focus on gun safety related bills that we think will move forward. The League’s position is that there can be some commonsense legislation that does not threaten the rights of gun owners,” commented Roxanna Deane, President of LWV-CA. “This is a highly charged issue and we need to be able to understand and respect our differences and work to find common ground.”
