Description
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, MAY 6, 2016:
NEW BRAUNFELS — The Comal County office of the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will hold its annual open house, welcoming the public for a free day of classes, tours, children’s activities and a ladybug release.
The open house will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 14. The Extension office is located at 325 Resource Dr, New Braunfels, TX 78132.
“Everyone is welcome to come out and enjoy learning more about gardens and nature from our expert volunteers,” said Connie Sheppard, extension agent for family and consumer sciences. “We will have classes on everything from gardening for butterflies to drip irrigation to mulching and composting, along with garden and arboretum tours. It’s a way for us to show off these great facilities and help Comal County residents learn how to make their own back yards greener.”
Local gardening expert Calvin Fitch also will be on hand to answer questions from 9-10:30 a.m., and the Comal County 4-H will display a restored 1930s-era tractor.
The open house – sponsored by the Extension Office, Comal County 4-H, Comal County Master Gardeners and Comal County Master Naturalists – also will feature the release of 2,000 ladybugs at 9:30 a.m., a scavenger hunt with prizes, a backyard petting zoo and other activities for children.
“We have a great time with this event every year,” Sheppard said. “It’s a small way for us to give back to the community for the support they show us all year long.”
