Description
Zika, Mosquito Control and West Nile Virus Talk
New Braunfels, TX - Bexar County Entomologist Molly Keck will be speaking at Westside Community Center as a part of the Comal Master Gardeners series. Ms. Keck is the Integrated Pest Management Specialist and Board Certified Entomologist for Bexar County's Texas AgriLife Extension Agency.
The presentation will be held in the Center lunchroom from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 8th. Those interested in the program should register online at www.nbtexas.org/library. Light refreshments will be available, or registrants are also welcome to bring a brown bag lunch. The presentation is free and open to the public.
Outreach Coordinator Jennifer Hernandez states, "With the spring weather and climate, people just want to be outside taking part in their favorite hobbies or enjoying the weather, so this is a timely session to help educate the public on how to control mosquitos and learn more about mosquito protection."
"Every year, Texans are exposed to mosquito bites and the diseases that mosquitos can potentially carry," Hernandez said. "Come to the talk to learn about the various diseases mosquitoes may transmit in Texas to humans, how to avoid mosquitoes, and how to manage mosquitoes in your landscape. Often, it is up to the homeowner to help reduce mosquitoes because they are breeding in their own backyard. It only takes a bit of standing water to breed mosquitoes, and often the water source is so small, we don't even know it's there. Learn how to find spots and what to do about them, as well as receive and update on Zika and West Nile Virus."
