School Bus Driver

Position Description: Our mission at Bracken Christian School is to partner with Christian families through the leadership and guidance of the Holy Spirit to provide an excellent education within the context of a biblical worldview, equipping students to impact their communities for Christ.
The School Bus Driver is responsible for providing safe, reliable, and efficient transportation for students, faculty, staff and parent chaperones to athletic events, and field trips. Daily tasks include performing pre-and post-trip inspections, obeying traffic laws, maintaining order on the vehicle and assisting passengers with special needs, if necessary. Bracken Christian School operates as a distinctively Christian ministry, therefore this position is more than a commercial driving role; it is a vital opportunity to minister to students, model Christ-like behavior, and set a positive, spiritual tone.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; College degree preferred
- Must possess a valid Class B CDL Texas driver's license with Endorsements P & S with no restrictions
- Certification of state requirements by the Texas Department of Public Safety
- Has excellent Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) with no recent moving violations, at-fault accidents, or major infractions
- Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
Experience:
- Strong Christian faith and personal testimony
- Must have experience operating a Class B certification vehicles for school districts or similar organizations
- Proven customer service, interpersonal, patience, communication skills
Key Responsibilities:
- Drive the bus along planned routes while following strict time schedules and local traffic laws
- Check tires, brakes, lights, fluid levels, and emergency equipment before and after trips
- Maintain accurate administrative records, including mileage logs, fuel receipts, inspection checklists, and student rosters
- Help passengers board and exit, manage wheelchair lifts or secure mobility devices (if needed), and answer route questions
- Enforce school bus riding rules fairly and firmly, utilizing biblical principles of respect, accountability, and kindness to manage student behavior
- Interact professionally, warmly, and courteously with students, parents, teachers, and school administrators
- Monitor and respond calmly and appropriaetely to passenger behavior, emergency situations, accidents, delays or inclement weather
- Report significant student behavioral issues or recurring infractions to the appropriate school principal or administrator using established reporting procedures
- Enforce safety rules, and report delays, accidents, or mechanical problems to the Athletic Director, Principal(s) or Head of School
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit for extended periods while operating a heavy motor vehicle
- Physical agility to climb steps, bend, stoop, reach, and assist passengers in entering or exiting the vehicle during an emergency
- Must pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical exam, vision screening, and regular pre-employment and random drug/alcohol screenings
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally (e.g., managing passenger luggage, equipment, or assisting a student)
- Exposure to varying weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow) and standard commercial vehicle noise and vibrations
