BSBEDF Launches CTE Workforce Scholarship to Invest in Local Skilled Trades and Technical Careers

Annual scholarships will support Bulverde and Spring Branch students pursuing trade, technical, and career education programs

SPRING BRANCH, TEXAS — June 8, 2026 — The Bulverde/Spring Branch Economic Development Foundation (BSBEDF) announced today the launch of the CTE Workforce Scholarship, a new annual scholarship program that will award two $4,500 scholarships each year to students from the Bulverde and Spring Branch community pursuing career and technical education (CTE).

The scholarship is designed to support students entering accredited trade schools, community college CTE certificate and associate degree programs, Texas Workforce Commission licensed career schools, and high school dual-credit CTE pathways leading to industry-recognized certifications. Eligible fields range across the trades, healthcare support, automotive, manufacturing, technology, and other workforce-essential programs.
"The skilled workers we need in this community are already here," said Michael Edwards, Executive Director of BSBEDF. "They're high school seniors choosing welding over a four-year track. They're young adults studying HVAC, nursing, and the trades that keep our community running. They're parents going back to school for a credential that will change what they earn. This scholarship is built for them."

The program was formally authorized at the BSBEDF Board of Directors meeting on May 13, 2026, as part of the Foundation's 2026 Workforce Development strategic pillar. The Board committed up to $2,500 in matching funds to launch the program in its first year.

"Workforce development is one of the most direct ways an economic development organization can strengthen its community," said Tom Hackleman, BSBEDF Board Chair. "Skilled trades and technical careers are the backbone of our local economy. Investing in the people who choose those paths is investing in the future of our community."
