Smithson Valley High School journalists win awards at annual convention

Student journalists from Smithson Valley High School brought home six awards for their photography and yearbook design from the Texas Association of Journalism Educators’ annual Fall Fiesta convention in San Antonio.

More than 600 journalism advisers and student journalists participated in the convention Oct. 7-9, including Margaret Edmonson, who is the SVHS adviser and serves as the treasurer on the TAJE executive board.

The SVHS student honorees include the following:

Danny Grant received an ‘honorable mention’ award in the
‘portrait’ photography category.
Olivia Ingram received ‘honorable mention’ awards in the ‘news’ photography category and in the ‘advanced yearbook’ design category.
Alissa Kastle received an ‘excellent’ award in the “first-year” photography category.
   
   
Davis Kuhn received ‘excellent’ awards in two photography
categories including sports action and photo portfolio.
In addition to these individual awards, the SVHS journalism yearbook received fifth place, and its online newspaper, the Valley Ventana, received 10th place.
