Thanksgiving Giving Story: 14 Years, 4,381 Families Fed

For 14 years, The GVTC Foundation has done something remarkable: fed over 4,381 local families a full Thanksgiving meal. In all that time, this event has only been covered twice years ago and never by tv stations — and this year, we'd love to change that. We want this story to be shared across all channels. It’s not about us, but about what we are doing for our neighbors and how others can help.  

Behind that number are 4,381 individual moments — a child came home talking about this day after being told in school everyone enjoys a feast,  a mom who didn't have to choose between rent and a turkey, a senior who opened her door expecting silence and instead found a volunteer with a warm smile and a full meal in hand. For many families, Thanksgiving isn't just a holiday — it's a cost they can't absorb. With grocery prices climbing and the overall cost of living squeezing household budgets, the extra expense of a turkey, sides, and all the trimmings is simply out of reach. What should be a day of gratitude often becomes one more source of stress.

This year, our goal is to reach 550 families across Boerne, Bulverde/Spring Branch, Blanco, Canyon Lake, and Gonzales. Each $40 donation funds a full traditional meal — and for most families, it stretches into more than one. Local businesses and nonprofits are stepping up in three ways: sponsoring meals, collecting food items, and forming volunteer teams to hand-deliver meals directly to families' doors on Saturday, November 21.

While the food collection and monetary donations are important, the delivery moment is where this story really lives. For many of the seniors we serve, the volunteer who knocks on their door is one of the only friendly faces they'll see that day — a few minutes of conversation and connection that matters as much as the meal itself. After 14 years, we still hear from volunteers who say a single delivery route changed how they see their own community.
