Affordable Homeownership Opportunity in Canyon Lake

Comal County Habitat for Humanity is now accepting applications from potential homebuyers in the Canyon Lake community.

Comal County Habitat’s Home Program is a partnership between the organization itself and the homebuyers that have been accepted into the program based on their qualifications. This partnership builds strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter. Habitat for Humanity builds safe, decent, affordable homes through volunteer labor and donations of money, materials, and services. Homes are sold to eligible partner homebuyers through affordable and supportive financing at no profit to Comal County Habitat.

Basic qualifications for the Home Program include:

• Meeting specific HUD income guidelines
• Having lived or worked in Comal County for the past 12 months
• The ability to pay a long-term, affordable mortgage,
• Legal residency in the United States
• The ability to successfully pass a criminal background check.

For those interested in learning more about purchasing a home, Comal County Habitat will host two homebuyer presentations at the end of March and beginning of April. These presentations are free to anyone who would like to attend, but are not required to apply for the program.

        Saturday, March 28th, 2020 at the Mammen Family Public Library

        Thursday, April 2nd 2020 at CRRC
                        1917 FM 2673, Canyon Lake, TX)          5:30 PM - 6:30 PM

“Comal County Habitat for Humanity’s vision is a world where everyone has a decent place to live. If you have ever dreamt of owning your own home but did not qualify for a conventional loan, this program may be what you need,” said Denise Farias, Home Program Coordinator for Comal County Habitat for Humanity.

“Our program is a hand up that assists you along the way. You will never know if you don’t try!” Since its beginning in 1993, Comal County Habitat for Humanity has partnered with over 140 local families to rehabilitate 91 homes and build 49 new homes.

Anyone interested in partnering with Comal County Habitat to build their home in Canyon Lake can pick up an application at their offices located at 1269 Industrial Drive, New Braunfels, TX 78130 any time between 9 AM and 5 PM Tuesday – Friday and 9 AM – 4 PM on Saturdays.

Those interested in affordable homeownership do not have to attend a homebuyer presentation to fill out an application, although it is encouraged. The deadline to fill out and return a homebuyer application for a new home in Canyon Lake is May 2nd, 2020.
