ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATION (BSBEDF)
Summary
The Executive Director of the BSBEDF (the organization) is responsible for implementation and achievement of the organization’s objectives, supporting and implementing the strategic plan; increasing membership and representing the organization at every opportunity.
This is a part time role requiring 10 – 20 hours of weekly meeting attendance, report generation and maintenance activities. This position reports directly to the organization’s Board of Directors and receives primary direction from the Chairman and Executive Committee.
Key Responsibilities
- Membership Retention & Growth
- Communicate with existing & new businesses to increase membership, hear concerns, and encourage participation in BSBEDF events
- Maintain regular calls and visits with current members
- Prospect for new and expired members
- Maintain updated list of current membership with contact information
- Set goals with the board for new member acquisition and report progress monthly
- Conduct an annual survey of members and report findings to the board
- Administration & Finance
- Assist board with the annual budgeting process
- Purchase all services and supplies necessary to operate the organization
- Understand the accounting system including the chart of accounts, basic accounting & budgetary principles, and QuickBooks; work with the organization’s contract bookkeeper
- Work with bookkeeper to review accounts receivable monthly and follow approved procedures to encourage payment of annual dues
- Prepare agendas, financial reports, activity reports, and other reports for monthly and quarterly board meetings
- Maintain a professional office and oversee maintenance, repair and housekeeping of the office
- Work with the board to identify fund-raising and other sources of funding
- Maintain relationships and timely payments with contract partners, e.g. IT & bookkeeping
- Consult with the Chairman and Executive Committee on any activities which appear to conflict with this job description
- Economic Development
- Provide and practice expertise for recruiting initiatives
- Maintain efforts to aid existing business retention and expansion programs
- Conduct and coordinate marketing and research efforts
- Conduct the recruitment of employers for relocation or expansion into the area
- Liaison & Outreach
- Establish and strengthen relationships with the Chamber of Commerce (BSBACOC), school district CISD, other regional entities and utilities
- Develop and maintain relations with architects, engineers, real estate developers, brokers, etc.
- Schedule and/or attend meetings of various regional groups, report activity to the board
- Attend conferences, seminars and other agency meetings approved by the board or executive committee
- Respond to prospect requests, RFPs, and conduct prospect visits
- Coordinate with SBDC, AACOG, lenders, the Chamber of Commerce and others to grow small businesses
- Attend tradeshows, TEDC, TML and other organizational meetings as available
- Coordinate and support local career fairs
- State, County and Local Government
- Build and maintain ties with state Office of Economic Development & Tourism and other state offices and personnel
- Network with and provide pertinent information to state and regional development allies to generate prospects; arrange and hold topical workshops
- Build and maintain relationships with Comal County offices, personnel and elected officials as pertains to economic development in the region
- Strengthen relationships with the City of Bulverde and the City of Spring Branch staff and elected officials
- Build and maintain commercial profile for “most desired” businesses for both cities
- Coordinate with City of Bulverde and City of Spring Branch to grow existing and new small businesses
- Attend State, County and Local Council meetings, special meetings and P & Z meetings as appropriate
- Public Relations & Marketing
- Perform public relations duties and public speaking related to the BSBEDF’s interests
- Assist with the maintenance of the BSBEDF’s website and community calendar; distribute that information through various means such as quarterly newsletter, email blasts, etc.
- Issue press releases and letters to the local press, business clients and public officials
- Develop publications, brochures, marketing materials and promotional literature for the BSBEDF
- Seek opportunities to list BSBEDF tourism and business events in calendars, appropriate publications and websites
- Other duties as directed by the BSBEDF Board of Directors
Qualifications/Requirements
- High School diploma required
- College Degree in Business Management or related field and CECD is preferred
- Excellent command of English Language, written and spoken
- Strong communication and interpersonal relationship skills
- Solid understanding of customer service; must be able to work effectively with challenging individuals and situations
- Proactive, creative and results oriented approach
- Willingness to work outside standard business hours
- Working knowledge of economic development national, state, and local incentive programs
- Preference for local or regional candidates
- Must have valid driver license and reliable transportation
- Must maintain professional appearance

Training
BSBEDF will provide access to economic development resources to assist in the operational management of a BSBEDF. Attendance at industry conferences and other training opportunities will be at the discretion of the Board.
